When you post an opportunity, we collect your name, contact email, and the details of the opportunity. Your contact email is kept private and is never shown publicly — it is only used to send you one-time verification codes to confirm, edit, or remove your listing.
When you register interest or request information about an opportunity, we collect your name, email, and any message you provide, and share it only with the person who posted that opportunity.
We collect basic, anonymized visitor analytics (such as page views and referrers) to understand site usage. We do not sell or share personal information with third parties.

These are the rules for using The Neighbourhood Project. We have tried to keep them short and easy to read. By using the site, posting an opportunity, or signing up for one, you agree to them. If something here isn't clear, just ask us — we're happy to explain.
Anyone can browse. If you are under 16, please get a parent or guardian's permission before posting an opportunity, registering for one, or giving us your email address. If you are under 13, ask an adult to use the site with you.
You are welcome to read our pages, share links, and pass listings along to people who might want to help. Please don't:
The site itself — our name, logo, design, code, and the words we write — belongs to The Neighbourhood Project. The content you write stays yours.
That said, anything you upload, write, create, or share with us is shared on the understanding that you give us the right to use, store, copy, display, publish, translate, adapt, and promote that material as we see fit in connection with running and promoting the platform — worldwide, for free, and for as long as we need to. You also promise that the material is yours to share and doesn't break anyone else's rights. If you remove your listing, we may still keep backups or records for a reasonable period.
Keep it appropriate for a general audience of all ages. Please don't post anything that:
You may not use The Neighbourhood Project to promote, sell, give away, arrange, or spread the word about anything illegal in Canada. That includes illegal goods, services, and activities — for example drugs, alcohol or tobacco to minors, weapons, counterfeit items, stolen property, gambling, fraud, unlicensed work that legally requires a licence, and any form of exploitation or trafficking. Serious cases may be reported to the appropriate authorities.
We use automated checks, content filters, verification codes, and human review to catch abuse. To protect everyone, we may remove or hide a listing, block an email address or network, or stop someone from posting — with or without notice — if we believe these terms have been broken or someone may be at risk. If you think we got it wrong, email us and we'll take another look.
We are a free noticeboard that connects people who need volunteers with people who want to help. We are not an employer, a placement agency, a charity registry, or a supervisor. We don't run background checks, vet organizers or volunteers, verify listings beyond confirming an email address, or supervise anything that happens in person. Any arrangement you make is between you and the other person, and you should use your own judgment — please read our safety tips.
We do our best to keep the site running, but we may change, pause, or shut down features at any time.
We collect as little as we can. Usually that's just your email address, and a name if you choose to give one. We don't ask for or want sensitive identifying information like your address, birthday, ID numbers, or payment details — please don't send them to us. We never sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. The only sharing that happens is the obvious kind: when you register for an opportunity, the organizer of that opportunity sees what you sent them.
We handle personal information in line with Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and Ontario law. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a correction, or ask us to delete it — email contact@theneighbourhoodproject.ca and we'll help. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
When you post or sign up for an opportunity, we send the emails needed to make that work — verification codes, confirmations, and details about opportunities you asked about. If you subscribe to our newsletter, you're also agreeing to receive the updates you picked.
In line with Canada's anti-spam law (CASL), every email we send says who it's from and includes a link to manage your preferences or unsubscribe. You can change your mind at any time using the “Manage email preferences” link at the bottom of any email we send you, and we'll action it promptly. Unsubscribing from the newsletter doesn't stop the essential emails about listings you personally posted or registered for.
The site and everything on it is provided "as is" and "as available". We can't promise that listings are accurate, that opportunities will go ahead, that the site will always be online or error-free, or that it will meet your particular needs. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, whether stated outright or implied.
To the fullest extent permitted by Ontario and Canadian law, The Neighbourhood Project and the people who run it are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from your use of the site, from anything posted by another user, or from any interaction or arrangement made through it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited. If you break these terms or the law and that causes a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs involved.
We may update these terms as the site grows. We'll change the "last updated" date above, and if the change is a big one we'll do our best to flag it clearly. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the new version.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and any dispute belongs to the courts of Ontario. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. We're committed to accessible service under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act — if any part of the site is hard for you to use, please tell us and we'll do what we can to help.

Meet in public places when possible, and use your best judgment when registering for an opportunity or sharing personal information. Verify details directly with the organizer before attending.
